Short Reflection for the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (C)
Readings: Sirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29; Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a; Luke 14:1, 7-14.
Selected Passage: "When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.” (Luke 14: 12-13)
Meditation: The Gospel is a strong challenge to us and a reminder that the poor and the hungry must have places at our table else we are NO different from the Scribes and the Pharisees. . If we invite only friends and kinfolks and the wealthy and the powerful, we have already received our rewards. So next time we throw a party, we simply ask whether the poor and the crippled are also fed else we simply follow convention. The following of Jesus is NOT CONVENTION! BEWARE!
